Hi there! My name is Riley Mason-Lewis and I am a kart racer in the UK. In 2026 I’m racing in the Super One Series in Senior Rotax with Joe Weaver Racing, having come through Honda Cadet, Mini Max and Junior Rotax at club level. My Journey to Motorsport
Ever since I was a toddler, I have been interested in cars and motorsport, finding a love for single seater racing such as Formula 1. I am a fan of Lando Norris and McLaren, Sir Lewis Hamilton and AMG Mercedes, and Mick Schumacher in particular. Feeding on this interest, my dad took me to Rye House Kart Raceway where I did some sessions on the junior track with the electric karts.
From here I progressed in to the Bambino kart remaining on the junior track. As I grew older, I progressed on to the main track in the junior karts, and in 2021 I took part in the Rookie Cup, a hire kart championship at Rye House.
During 2021, we purchased our first kart, a 2012 Project One Honda Cadet. This allowed me to take part in test days and practice more. Rye House host an Independent Kart Racing (IKR) championship and I wanted to take part. Given how competitive the Honda Cadet grid is, my dad set me a target lap time of 44 seconds. This would ensure that I was not so slow to be unsafe. The video below shows my progress.
I worked hard and managed to hit the 44 second lap time. This meant that I had earned an entry in to the 2022 IKR Championship. I didn’t stop there though and continued working hard to improve my lap times. You can see in the video the improvement to my driving over the year.
At the end of the year, we purchased a new engine and then just before the season started we got a newer 2016 Project One chassis. My lap times have improved drastically and I am now within 1 second of the leaders and working hard to get closer. We have since had our engine rebuilt by GX Tuning Store and it has made a big difference.
At the end of 2022, we purchased our first ‘big kart’ ready for 2023 … an OTK LN4 kart to compete in the Mini Max class. Unfortunately, MSUK changed the spec of Mini Max to use the 950 chassis, so we focused on Red Lodge and Bayford Meadows championships which ran the ’22 spec Mini Max class for 2023. This proved a good year, with Riley taking 2nd place in both championships and gaining his first event win at Red Lodge on the final round.
For 2024 we made the move to Junior Rotax, this was easy given our 22 Mini Max set up, with just a new ECU and removing some restrictors. I also took part in my first national level championship – The Kart Championship (aka Junior Kart Championship or JKC). As part of this step up I became an official driver for Ambition Motorsport. At The Kart Championship, I was part of the Junior Primo grid which is ideal for those just stepping in to the Junior Rotax class. Being a national championship this was ideal for learning new circuits.
In 2025 I returned to The Kart Championship, this time however progressing from Junior Primo to the full Junior Rotax grid. Still as an Ambition Motorsport driver, we had additional support from Joe Weaver Racing. Junior Rotax often has some of the biggest grids in karting so this would be a real challenge.
2026 sees me in another new class, Senior Rotax and another new championship, this time taking part in the Super One Series along with new colours for the suit and kart now fully a member of Joe Weaver Racing.
